MARION, IL (KFVS) -Marion High School students moved in to their new high school on Wednesday as classes resumed for the fall semester.

The nearly $70 million project has taken nearly five years and construction isn't fully complete. Over the next year and a half, construction on a new fine-arts wing will take place that will encompass a building a new auditorium.

MHS Assistant Principal Nate Addison said the new facility is a blessing to his community.

"All the equipment you need to provide a good, safe, effective learning environment," Addison said.

Students this year enter a facility filled with state of the art Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or S.T.E.M labs, a brand new work out facility and recreation center, and every Marion High School student this year will head to the classroom equipped with a Google Chrome Book.

"It's a blessing to our faculty, it's a blessing to our community, it's a blessing to our students. Opportunities are endless," Addison said.

Demolishing of the old facility is ongoing.
